The advantage that survives every model price drop
The Builder's Playbook

Okay, so here's something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
Six months ago, running a serious AI workflow cost real money. Today it costs a fraction of that. And every time a new model ships, the price drops again.
Honestly, almost nobody's positioned for what that actually means.
Once AI gets cheap enough, the model just... stops being the advantage. I know that sounds a little counterintuitive, so let me walk through why.
Why cheap AI changes the competition
Think about it this way. When something's expensive, just having access to it is the whole advantage. You get there first, you win, simple as that.
But once it's cheap enough that everyone's using it? That advantage is gone.
Your competitor's running the same model you are.
Their agent's reasoning the same way yours is.
So the question isn't "who has AI" anymore. It's "whose AI actually knows what it's talking about."
What "knows what it's talking about" actually means
Here's the thing, I've literally watched two companies run identical agents, on identical infrastructure, and get completely different results. And it wasn't the model. It was that the two agents weren't looking at the same data.
One had a CRM export from last week, an Apollo list from three weeks ago, a spreadsheet nobody had touched since Q1. The other had one resolved customer record, every touchpoint attached, updated continuously instead of frozen the moment someone hit export.
Same model, same prompt. And the model was never what separated them.
This is the part most people are missing
Everyone's out there running prompt workshops, benchmarking which model reasons best, going back and forth on Claude versus GPT versus whatever's shipping next quarter.
Look, that stuff matters, a little, at the margins. But it matters way less than what the model actually gets to see before it starts reasoning at all.

Data engineering is quietly becoming the real advantage here.
And I think the reason is simple: a model, anyone can subscribe to tomorrow.
Years of resolved identity, scored activity, connected signal history? Nobody's copying that overnight. That takes real time to build, and a cheaper model doesn't buy you any of that time.
What this means if you're building right now
So if your team's spending most of its AI budget on model selection and prompt tuning, I'd just say, that spend is going to matter less every quarter.
The model layer keeps getting cheaper and more interchangeable whether you touch it or not.
But if that same effort's going into connecting your data, resolving identity, building one activity timeline per customer, scoring and decaying signal over time, that compounds.
It gets more valuable the longer you run it. And that's the kind of advantage nobody can just buy off the shelf next week.
Who owns customer context will define the next decade of software.
The revenue is in the engineering.
Stay safe out there.
Much Love,
