💭 My Take of the Week
A significant part of business success comes down to how you and your team regulate your emotions.
This is especially true given that most action comes from deeper emotions we all feel and often are not aware of.
For example, jumping from new idea to new idea, giving up too quickly on a “good idea,” overreacting to a small problem, challenge, or interpersonal dispute with your colleagues, employees, or clients, can quickly result in friction in your team dynamics, your customer success, and your ability to manage other human beings. All of these problems are rooted in emotion (even if it feels like pure logical decision-making).
Because of the above, a critical part of success is getting deeper in touch with your own emotions to:
Become aware of the emotions.
Feel the emotions literally in your body.
Release the emotions…before they take charge and control your behavior.
My favorite training on regulating your emotions and getting in touch with them is the Mankind Project and Women Within project. They host weekly seminars (retreats) and meetups for men and women looking to level up in their lives.
I also held a great podcast on this subject (watch it here).
As a person who is “Type A” and hyper-analytical, I often rely too much on my brain and thinking and not enough on my intuition. For years, I have taken action without truly understanding what was driving these decisions.
As it turns out, a combination of fear, shame, sadness, joy, and other emotions was at the core of how I appeared in the world. I am now on a journey to master and understand these emotions so that I can reach my greatest potential. I suggest you do the same.
