💭 My Take of the Week
I've been building RevyOps now for over a year and a half, and many of my ideal customer profiles have attempted to and continue to attempt to build their own in-house solution. This caused me to pause and consider, “Perhaps I am the crazy one.”
So, like any rational human being, I turned to my AI pal (ChatGPT) to discuss whether or not it would make my business and I obsolete. What could go wrong?
Specifically, I asked it to give me a diagnosis of current market conditions and trends to help me determine whether my current company vision for RevyOps is destined to fail.

ChatGPT counseled me and said:
“You are not wrong…you are early. There are three phases to this market’s evolution:
DIY delusion phase. Everyone thinks they can build it. Tools like Subabase, Claude reinforces this belief. Market undervalues infrastructure.
Phase 2 (6-18 months) - failure and fragmentation. Systems break at scale, attribution fails, data trust collapses, teams waste time debugging.
Phase 3 (12-36 months) - consolidation. Market shifts to reliability, correctness, and standardization. This is where you win. You're building for phase 3 while selling into phase 1.
This generally aligned with my thesis. Building a unified deterministic, deduplicated, clean data backbone is key even in a world rich with AI. And, no you can’t vibe code your way to the true solution.
So, then, why do many of my ideal customer profiles believe otherwise?
Certainly it is undeniable that the vibe coding craze with Claude Code, Cursor, and Lovable has taken the world by storm. It has given people superpowers they never new they could have. These new powers are intoxicating. But, they create delusion and fantasy.
The delusion? People believe software building is easy. People think it's a commodity. In part, they are correct, which makes it even more confusing. The truth is that building quick websites and simple apps is a commodity. Even I have heavily relied on Lovable and Figma Make to design prototypes, build my new websites, and launch landing pages for my paid ad campaigns.
Yet, what is counterintuitive is that building architecturally sound, secure systems that scale over time still requires deep technical understanding and a team of professional developers with deep experience in computer science.
No amount of hype, arrogance, or confidence will change that reality.
Yes, code can be produced faster, but systems are not just code. They are development operations, architectural choices, cloud environments, and user experience and user interface design that requires thousands of inputs from real humans to iterate across time to make it better and better and better.
Edge cases, bugs, and feature feedback take time, effort, energy to continually refine. This is not done well by AI right now.
Bottom line: I predict that in the next 12 to 24 months, people that are still in business will realize that their homegrown projects are overpriced and do not perform the way they want despite their initial hype. They will spend far more time, energy, and effort to support their Frankenstein vibe coded projects, while distracting from their core business. At that point, RevyOps will be ready to help them out.
